Breakfast Session: What really makes a team high performing?

Teams have had a tough year but there's no hiding place or chance to take a time out as organisations strive to deliver high performance.

Challenging delegates to give feedback and have tough conversations back in their businesses, Steve Gynes and Dr. Wil James explored the makings of High Performing Teams. The interactive session took people on a journey through Lane4's most recent research, sharing the diagnostic tool that we've developed.

Breaking the group into table discussions, the pair encouraged delegates to share stories about teams they've both seen and experienced in the corporate and sporting world. They prompted conversations by asking 'How do you know when a team is high performing?' Key trends included 'delivering results but also having the support to do it', 'effective knowledge sharing throughout teams', and 'teams having a common purpose'.

To demonstrate the Lane4 diagnostic, our High Performing Teams model was broken down into individual components. Sample High Performing Team diagnostic reports highlighted the benefits of identifying strengths and weaknesses that leave teams with clear data.

Table discussions about understanding the interferences within teams highlighted that it's hard to be high performing if there's a lack of team story or unclear accountabilities, especially if the team is changing structure.

To bring the session to a close, Wil shared a video clip demonstrating how the GB hockey team has become a high performing team by identifying strengths and weaknesses in the team and encouraging players and coaches to give feedback.
