Charlie Unwin is a consultant at Lane4. He draws upon his experiences as a former military commander, an elite athlete and coach to facilitate high performance in organisations. Performance Coaching
Charlie has a wide range of experience in the field of coaching. From an individual perspective Charlie works with executives and senior leaders to address areas of competency, motivation and confidence that arise from their leadership challenges. From an organisational perspective, Charlie's approach centres around his belief that coaching is a vital attribute of successful leadership communication. He has worked closely with private and public sector organisations to develop bespoke, sustainable coaching initiatives.
Team Development
Charlie translates his extensive military experience, working as part of a High Performing Team, to facilitate insights and skills in key areas of team development. He uses the Lane4 High Performing Teams framework as a tool for diagnosing and developing the various components required to achieve real results. This approach crystallises the purpose of the team, as well as how they operate, think and respond to pressure. He also has specialist knowledge in Psychological Momentum - a concept that maximises positive momentum and minimises negative interference surrounding key events.
Leadership Development
Charlie has designed and delivered on leadership programmes across retail, finance and services industries. Charlie's approach starts with what the organisation requires from its leaders. He then looks at developing leadership capability through; self-awareness, authentic communication, effective decision-making, creating a motivational climate, and managing difficult conversations.

Charlie Unwin joined Lane4 as a consultant in 2010. Charlie has drawn upon his experience in the military and sport to engage individuals, teams and organisations with their own performance aspirations. Since joining Lane4 Charlie has worked predominantly in the service and retail sectors, designing and delivering programmes around personal performance, coaching culture, change leadership and high performing teams.

Background
Charlie has a diverse performance background within the military and elite sport. Having graduated from Durham University with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, he embarked upon a year's leadership training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.Charlie served for seven years as an officer in the Royal Horse Artillery during which he commanded front line forces in Iraq. A member of a specialist leadership team, he was also responsible for recruiting and training the new Basra Police Force in 2004..
On return to the UK, Charlie's commitment to sport was rewarded when he was seconded onto the GB Modern Pentathlon Team in Bath. Within just two years he was ranked top three in Great Britain and was selected for the GB World Championship Team. He went on to compete in five World Cups, and was British Champion in 2007..
Upon leaving the Army, Charlie pursued his passion for Human Performance by gaining an MSc in Sport Psychology at Brunel University. During this time he won a national postgraduate award for his applied research into motivational climate within elite team environments..
Charlie is currently working with GB Olympic Fencing Team moving into 2012 and has also achieved notable success working with elite equestrians, tennis players, rowers and cricketers. In addition, he has coached seven junior and youth athletes on the World Class Development and Talented Programmes, four of whom have achieved European and World Championship selection, with one winning a silver medal at the Junior World Championships..
