Lane4 Annual Conference 2007: Engaging Talent
Lane4 hosted its third Annual Conference at the Royal Society of Arts in London.
The day entitled 'Engaging Talent' explored how, as leaders in business, we can think creatively about the nurture, development and retention of our talent and how we can best go about engaging this talent for sustainable performance.
After a welcome address from Adrian, delegates were invited to join a thought-provoking debate on whether leaders are born or bred and the direct consequences for businesses and recruitment strategy surrounding each argument.
Following this, delegates were able to select a series of interactive breakout sessions, themed around engaging talent, which they attended throughout the day. Workshops included:
- The Living Dead - A session looking at re-motivating the high population of people who are disillusioned with their jobs
- Corridor Conversations - With 4 in 5 change programmes failing to produce the anticipated changes, there is something fundamental missing. This session investigated what this something might be, and what can be done to increase the chances of success
- Employee Burnout - This session explored why increasing numbers of once qualified, energetic and productive employees are becoming victims of burn-out. It looked at what else organisations can do to recognise these early signs, and so prevent losing their top talent
Lunch and coffee breaks were accompanied by informal 'Poster Sessions' which highlighted some of Lane4's newest research which is being conducted in conjunction with a select group of Ph.D. students. Areas of interest included 'High Performing Teams', 'Change: What Interventions Drive Successful Change?' and 'High Performance Environments'.
The day culminated with a future focused session which explored the world through the eyes of the corporate intake of the year 2000. The session highlighted the changing needs, requirements and expectations of both employees and employers and explored how this will effect the way both employment and business is conducted in the future.
