Lane4 on the road to 2012

27 July 2010

On this day, in two years time, we will all be in the history books. The Olympic Games will begin in London on Friday 27 July 2012 and the eyes of the world will be on the UK.

To mark the occasion, 2012 organisers are holding a range of special events in the Olympic Park. Four time Olympic gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy will become the first man to cycle around the 2012 velodrome and American Michael Johnson, who also won four Olympic golds, will be sprinting on a temporary track in the Olympic Stadium.

These exciting external events inspire some internal reflection; what is Lane4 doing in the run up to the Games?

All UK companies are gearing up for London 2012, but Lane4 more than most. Lane4 is uniquely placed to bridge the gap between sport and business and our elite sporting heritage continues to thrive and grow with our many links to the 2012 Olympic Games. From working with clients wanting to engage their employees around the Olympics, to our own people being involved in sporting and coaching roles, Lane4 is proud to be participating in any way with such an historic event.

Greg Searle (Practice Director)

The inspiring story of Greg’s 2012 comeback quest has been highly documented both on the Lane4 website and by the national press. The Olympics coming to home turf inspired Greg to come out of retirement, having won a gold medal alongside his brother at the Barcelona Olympics in the coxed pairs back in 1992. After training hard, Greg made the GB men’s eight that helped Team GB win the Rowing World Cup this year. Greg has many more tests and obstacles to overcome if he wants to compete and win gold at the Olympics, least of all his age - he will turn 40 in 2012.

Clare Strange (Consultant)

As part of the GB Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team, Clare has her sights firmly set on London 2012. At the recent World Wheelchair Basketball Championships, her team was placed 6th in the world. With several competitions ahead of her, Clare is working hard to make maximum impact in the summer Olympics.

Adrian Moorhouse (Managing Director)

Having famously won a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Adrian went on to co-found Lane4 15 years ago. His links to the Olympics are still strong, regularly commentating on swimming for the BBC. Adrian is also Chair of the Buckinghamshire 2012 Coordination Group and Bucks Olympic Ambassador.

Wil James (Principal Consultant) and Jeremy Cross (Senior Consultant)

Wil and Jeremy are working closely with the coach and players of the Men’s GB Hockey Team in the run up to 2012. Developing a High Performance Environment and performing under pressure are just some of the areas they are currently working in.

Dominic Mahony (Director, Europe Practice)

London 2012 will be the fourth Olympic Games that Dominic has been Team Manager to the GB Modern Pentathalon Team. Dominic has his own elite sporting history, being an international Modern Pentathlete for 12 years, competing in two Olympic Games and wining a team bronze medal in 1988. He also won a World Championship bronze medal in 1987.

Charlie Unwin (Consultant)

One of our newest Consultants is no stranger to the sporting world, having competed in five World Cups as part of the GB Modern Pentathlon Team and being named British Champion in 2007. Charlie is currently the sports psychology coach for the GB Fencing Team moving into 2012, as well as working with individual Olympic equestrians.

As London 2012 draws ever closer, Lane4 is definitely at the heart of the action.

This regular feature will spotlight some of the great work by Lane4 employees gearing up for London 2012.
