Sponsorship and Employee Legacy

Drawing on an early career as European Marketing Manager at the NBA and Sponsorship Director at MTV Europe, Matt works with business leaders to explore the benefits of using sponsorship propositions to drive employee, as well as customer, engagement. Understanding this concept as an unexploited source of Return on Investment is central to his approach. His white paper 'Building the Business Case for Internal Sponsorship Activation' has been published in the Journal of Sponsorship and he has spoken on the topic at various industry conferences across Europe. Matt has been actively involved with the European Sponsorship Association since 2001 where he now sits on the Board. He has led the Lane4 support programmes of several 2012 sponsors, where employee engagement and learning legacy is a key rationale for these business partnerships.

Business and London 2012

Matt sits on the Buckinghamshire Olympic Coordination Group, designed to maximise the overall impact of the Games for the county, with a specific focus on developing commercial opportunities for business in the area. He is a contributor to Sport Business Magazine and is a regular commentator in the media on the ways in which businesses can capitalise on the London Games.

Brand and Commercial Strategy in the Professional Services

Matt is a member of the Managing Partners Forum and represents Lane4 as a business at various industry seminars and conferences. He has a specific interest in the 'global' versus 'local' and 'partners' versus 'managers' debates in the professional services sector. He has also presented to the Managing Partners Forum around the challenges and opportunities associated with being named in Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For List.

Generational Change in the Workforce

Prior to joining Lane4 in 2004, Matt's roles at the NBA and MTV allowed him a unique insight into the motivations and shaping of 'Generation Y'. The subsequent influence and impact on learning and development strategy has become an area of interest and specialism for Matt. Demographic changes and the global hunt for top talent mean Gen Y people are in top demand, yet are also demanding customers for prospective employers! Matt is involved in various projects helping organisations to develop an understanding of their motives and the environments in which they thrive - factors which are becoming increasingly important to business performance.

Understanding the Return on Investment in Learning and Development

Effective measurement of people development programmes and the challenges involved is a key area of Matt's expertise. Leveraging this knowledge, he has co-authored Lane4's Understanding the Return on Investment of People Development research report.
