Tom Smith is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Europe Client Director at Lane4. He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a member of its Division of Occupational Psychology and Executive Committee. Tom draws on his early career as a prison psychologist with the Home Office, as an occupational psychologist at Ford and his leadership roles in Learning and Development in JPMorgan and HSBC to design and deliver Lane4 programmes for clients across multiple sectors.
Organisational Development
Tom's expertise lies in the human dimension of organisational change. He works with organisations to explore how to make sense of change and discover how change can be implemented most effectively. From working with leaders to communicate the drivers and vision for change, to supporting transitioning teams and effecting successful M&As, ensuring that employees are engaged with complex change is central to Tom's approach. The identification and nurturing of talent is another area of specialism for Tom. He works with leaders across industry sectors to develop strategic talent plans in order to unlock employee potential and drive both organisational engagement and achievement. This can include the use of psychometric profiling to identify talent and designing programmes to develop high potentials and future leaders.
Team and Leadership Development
Tom's has particular expertise in team and leadership development within the financial services sector. His roles have included Managing Director in Human Resources at JP Morgan and Head of Learning and Development at HSBC. At both organisations his responsibilities included the implementation and management of global Employee Engagement programmes. At Lane4, Tom has worked at Board level to identify strategic goals, develop consistent leadership behaviours and facilitate the delegation of responsibility and accountability. He has worked with teams across multiple business functions around aligning goals to business strategy and understanding the impact of such strategy on leadership and team behaviour.
Coaching
Tom is an experienced senior executive coach with particular expertise in the financial sector. His work includes delivering Board and Senior Executive Level 1:1 Coaching for clients including JPMorgan, Chase, Coca Cola Enterprises, Visa, Bradford & Bingley, City Link and others.

Background
Tom is published, and presents regularly in international conferences within the field of occupational psychology, specifically focusing on assessment and organisational change. With his family growing up, Tom is finding more time for pursuing personal interests, including painting with water colours. Lately he has also found time to dig up his past enthusiasm for archaeology. He also enjoys managing the under 11's football and local cricket team, where his youngest son plays.
Tom's experience in financial services includes Managing Director in Human Resources at JPMorgan, where he worked in both Europe and in New York, managing Recruiting and Learning & Development teams. Here he was heavily involved in creating a range of HR products, including assessment centres, performance management systems and coaching interventions.
Tom Smith is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Europe Client Director at Lane4. Tom's first career was as a prison psychologist with the Home Office. During six years with the Prison Department he concentrated on occupational as well as criminological psychology. He was involved in the assessment of dangerousness and risk in offenders, the design and development of the National Hostage Negotiator Programme and was a key player in the regime development of a maximum security unit for violent and dangerous offenders.
