Where has your passion for performance come from?
I’ve always been really inspired by watching people do what they are great at, especially in a sporting context. Between the ages of 16 and 19, I invested many hours to develop my ability as a football player. I came to realise that is wasn’t the technical, tactical or physical capabilities that prevented me from fulfilling my potential. It was the psychological aspects of performance which enable the best to continue performing at their best, when it matters most.
What gives organisations the winning edge?
For me it's 2 main things: 1. Work that becomes play. I believe people perform better when they are having fun and are truly engaged. 2. An environment where company values and mission statements link easily to individual motivations and drivers. It might be about ‘changing people’s lives’, 'being the most customer centric company’ or ‘leaving a legacy', but whatever the vision, for me, it has to be articulated as being more than just about business and finance.
