Operating an international network in over 135 countries, JLT is one of the largest insurance broking networks in the world. In 2015 the Emerging Leaders programme was launched, in response to a need to grow their talent pipeline from within, by providing consistent training and development for emerging leaders from across the global organisation. Another key factor was to enable collaboration by bringing together a network of colleagues to help build relationships across borders.
JLT selected consultancy, Lane4, to partner with them on delivering an innovative programme over 9 months which included extensive psychometrics, development coaching, on-line leadership development modules and an immersive residential training week. This included a number of innovative experiential activities such as raft building, equine assisted leadership and wheelchair basketball. The cross-functional, multi-national groups of delegates also collaborated on a business simulation and made video diaries of their learning through the week.
“The programme was both innovative and deeply grounded in what our business needed. It offered delegates a diverse experience, using experiential sporting activities. This was a very high-profile programme and the first time we’d brought together such a large group at this level in a structured way. We took some calculated risks, including a day on equine leadership, which gave a true sense of the importance emotional intelligence. It was a superb programme that showcased what leadership is about and I’m absolutely delighted it has been recognised with this award.”

“The Emerging Leaders programme is about laying the foundations for the long-term success of our organisation. It brings together the best of our talent and accelerates their pace of development, so that we can become quickly self-sufficient in terms of our ability to generate the future leaders of JLT. It has given us a payback many more times than we could have dared to imagine at the outset; I think it will do so for a long-time to come.”
Dominic Burke, Chief Executive Officer, Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group

It’s particularly satisfying to hear of the transformational impact it’s had already for the emerging leaders around the world of JLT as well the impact on business performance through increased collaboration and commercial projects.”
