The Resilience Tracker 2019

Our research, conducted by YouGov, has found that a worrying number of employees are feeling significantly more stressed than they did in previous years. Many employees don’t know how to manage their stress levels and feel under-supported by their companies.

Some of the key findings were:

⇒ Over 4 in 10 employees feel stressed at work every day

⇒ More than one third are more stressed now than two years ago

⇒ 46% of employees feel their business doesn't provide them with the resources to cope with stress

Our findings

It's time to rethink resilience

Organisations and their leaders need to train workers to rethink and appreciate the value of resilience as a tool to reduce stress and improve performance during pressurised times. These are just three of the ways organisations can help their people become more resilient:

Create a supporting environment

Leaders need to enable employees to help themselves, and to create an environment which supports them. Individual learning and resources around resilience are particularly valuable in times of rapid change, but should be available at all times so people can develop and ‘top up’ their skills.

Become more culturally aware

At the organisational level, HR and leadership teams need to be alert to the culture they are building, and ensure that high levels of pressure, when necessary, are matched with support.

Take a new approach to resilience

A stressed employee rarely gives their most to their employer. Instead, when stress becomes an inevitability, everyone loses. That's why resilience is so key. When learned and implemented properly, it can help people thrive even in the most stressful circumstances.
